Au XVe siècle, Selim Turgüt est envoyé par le sultan en Epire pour mater une rébellion. Il donne l'assaut au château, tue le châtelain et ses fils, viole les femmes de la famille. Un vieillard révèle à Selim qu'il a été enlevé à 5 ans par le sultan, il est grec et non turc et vient de perpétrer des crimes dans sa propre famille. Ainsi naît la légende des générations boiteuses... Premier roman.
